'Tis all a chequer-board of nights and days
Where the destiny of men for pieces plays:
Hither and thither moves, and mates, and slays,
And one by one back in the closet lays.

Moving from Texas to New York City, Part 2

Around October 2001, there were only a few Remedy jobs available around the country and none of them were in Dallas. The only local Remedy job available required Top Secret clearance, which I did not have nor was the employer willing to help me get. I had a choice of either riding things out to see if a job became available, take a job in another IT area (i.e. go back to a NOC or Help Desk), or take a chance and find a job somewhere else. At the time, somewhere else was either Louisville, KY or New York, NY.

I actually applied to the New York job without much expectation that I would even get a callback from the recruiter. Low and behold, however, the recruiter and my soon-to-be new boss loved my resume and had me fly in for a face to face interview. Another great draw for the hospital is that it had incredible benefits and was much more stable than the dotComs I used to work for.

Well, that is the story of how the September 11th attacks caused an IT professional living in Dallas, TX to move to New York City by December, 2001.
